6 Effective Home Remedies for Piles

Inflamed painful veins in the rectum are known as piles .Piles is also known as hemorrhoids. The hemorrhoidal veins around the rectum are swollen causing pain and bleeding
 

Piles are of two types:

  • Internal piles or internal hemorrhoids which are 2 to 4 cms above the anus and are fairly common. These can be in the form of small inflammations inside the lining of the anus,or larger ones but still inside the anus and get pushed out while passing stools but return back on their own, prolapsed hemorrhoids which can be felt outside and the patient can push them back and extremely large ones which always stay outside and need to be treated by a doctor
  • External piles or external hemorrhoids which occur on the outside of the anus and are of fewer occurrence. These are also known as perianal hematoma.They are small and outside the anus.They cause itching .they can cause extreme pain if a blood clot is formed inside. This is called thrombosed external hemorrhoid and needs immediate medical treatment.
Piles causes pain, discomfort and one can find it embarrassing to discuss about it but they are curable. Most of the times increase in fluid consumption, certain medications and fiber rich food helps cure piles. In severe cases surgery may be required.

Causes of piles:

Piles occur due to high pressure on the internal external veins around the anus.Common causes are:
  • Diet which is poor in fibers
  • Pregnancy
  • Old age
  • Low fluid consumption
  • Severe constipation
  • Old age
  • Anal Intercourse
  • Excess of spicy foods
  • Diarrhea
  • Heavy weight lifting on daily basis

Symptoms of Piles:

  • Inflammation on the area around the anus
  • Pain
  • Blood while defecating
  • Pains while defecating
  • Feeling of fullness of bowels after defecating
  • Itching around the anus
  • Lump of blood can be found around the anus which is painful

Home Remedies for piles:

1. Raddish:

Radish is rich in fiber, improves digestion, retains water and gives relief from piles. Drink raddish juice twice daily. You can also make a cream from raddish which helps give relief from piles. The process is a follows:
  • Crush a raddish
  • Mix with milk
  • Apply the past to the anus
  • Wash after 15 minutes
  • Follow the remedy twice daily

2. Black Cumin Seeds:

Black cumin seeds have a cooling effect and give relief from piles.
  • Roast 1 tablespoon of black cumin seeds
  • Mix with 1 tablespoon of unroasted seeds
  • Grind to a fine powder
  • Mix ½ teaspoon of the powder with a glass of water
  • Drink this mixture
  • Follow the remedy daily

3. Figs:

Figs have high fiber content and help in curing piles.
  • Soak 4 figs in water overnight.
  • Eat these in the morning on an empty stomach
  • Follow the remedy daily

4. Bananas:

Bananas are rich in fiber .They give relief from constipation and piles.
  • Take a cup of milk
  • Add a mashed ripe banana to it
  • Boil the mixture
  • Have the mixture 3 to 4 times in a day.

5. Buttermilk:

Buttermilk has a cooling effect and relieves piles
  • Take buttermilk
  • Add a little ajwain to it
  • Add salt to taste
  • Drink the mixture twice daily

6. Ginger, mint leaves, lemon juice and honey:

The above mixture is a useful ayurvedic remedy for relief from piles
  • Take juice of ginger
  • Mix it with juice of mint leaves
  • To this add lemon juice
  • Mix honey
  • Consume twice in a day
  • Follow the remedy daily
In addition to the above home remedies following some simple tips also gives relief from piles.

Tips:

  • Drink 6 glasses of water daily to avoid drying of stools
  • Take fiber supplements like isabgol
  • Place cool compress on the affected areas to get relief
  • Apply sterilized cotton to stop bleeding
  • Don’t sit in one position for long time
  • Don’t make laxatives a habit
  • Keep the affected area clean.
  • Do not let constipation occur
  • Keep stool soft by eating high fiber and low fat food
  • Eat lots of whole grains,sprouts,raddish,papaya,carrots
