Knee Pain-Causes and Symptoms

One of the most important and intricate joint is the knee joint. This joint connects the thighbone and the shinbone. The bone next to the tibia, which is called fibula and the kneecap are a part of the knee joint. Ligaments join the knee bones and tendons connect them to the muscles of the legs. Cartilages are the shock absorbers while the fluid filled sacs help in the smooth movement of the knees
Knees bear the weight of the body and also are subjected to more burden when your body walks or runs. As a result of the continuous pressure the knee is subjected to pain in the joints of the knees is fairly common. It can be as a result of an injury or as a result of daily chores. Sports injuries and arthritis commonly result in knee pain.
The various conditions that can cause knee pain are as follows:
1. Tendonitis:
Tendons connect are the tissues that connect your bone with the muscles. Overuse of the knee causes the tendons to swell and causes pain. It is usually observed in basket ball players.
2. Bone chip:
Knee injury can cause the bone or the cartilage to chip and this can get stuck in the joint causing pain and swelling
3. Bursitisis:
Bursa is the fluid sac that pads up the knee joints. Repeated movements cause swelling at the back of the knee. This is called bakers cyst.
4. Haemarthrosis:
In this condition there is bleeding in the knee joints resulting in pain. This may require hospitalization.
5. Partially dislocation kneecap:
The sliding of the knee cap causes pain.
There are some other condition like Iliotibial band syndrome and Medial plica syndrome which result in knee pains. These are basically overuse injuries.
Besides injuries there are other causes that can cause knee pain:
  • Overweight people are more susceptible to knee pains
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Gout
  • Sprain of the knee
  • Fractures
  • Old age
  • Overuse of the knees
  • Pain in the knee
  • Stiffness of joints
  • Swelling
  • Numbness
  • Difficulty in standing or walking
If below mentioned symptoms are observed then seek medical help immediately:
  • You cannot put any weight on the knees
  • Knee pains even when there is no weight put on it
  • The knee looks deformed
  • Knee click painfully
  • There is fever, redness and severe swelling
  • The pain does not go even after three days of complete rest.
Prevention of Knee Pain:
1. Maintain your weight as overweight people are more susceptible to knee injuries
2. Wear shoes that help you maintain balance
3. Do stretching exercises before you do rigorous exercise
4. Swimming and walking are good forms of exercise
5. Strengthen your leg muscles with proper weight training
6. Stop exercising if you experience pain in the knees
7. It is best to train under an expert trainer and with the right equipments
Knee pain can be avoided and if it does bother you then it can be cured .But if the pain and severity increases immediately seek the help of a medical expert.
