10 Reasons Olive Oil to be Used as Skin Moisturizer

Olive oil with its rich nutrients is highly beneficial in curing several ailments. The same olive oil which we use in cooking due to its multifold health benefits is highly valuable for skin problems as well.
Olive oil is due to its beneficial effects on skin is widely used in several cosmetic products.

The various uses of olive oil for skin are as follows:

  • Moisturizes the skin making it soft and supple
  • Rich in vitamins A and E which help in making skin flexible and elastic.
  • Abolishes free radicals hence is widely used as an anti ageing agent 
  • Has antioxidant which helps in increasing blood supply to the skin.
  • Reduces stretch marks.
  • Used in the treatment of dandruff and hair problems
  • Speeds up cell renewal.
  • Removes blackheads
  • Useful in curing diaper rashes
  • Healing properties make it useful to cure cuts and wounds
Olive oil can be widely used in making natural moisturizers at home. The various ways of using olive oil in home made moisturizers are as follow:

Method 1:

Extra virgin olive oil can be directly used as skin moisturizer.
  • Half an hour before bedtime have a shower.
  • Take few drops of extra virgin olive oil on the palms.
  • Gently apply it to the skin
  • Leave it overnight.
  • This method is useful for dry skin but olive oil can be used even for oily skin.

Method 2:

Olive oil and water blend is also very useful moisturizer. Water hydrates the skin and olive oil moisturizes the skin.
  • Take half cup of olive oil
  • Mix it well with half cup water.
  • Apply this emulsion to the skin everyday.

Method 3:

Herbal olive oil blend of extra virgin olive oil, water and parsley are beneficial for the skin. Olive oil and water blend is also very useful moisturizer and the antibiotic properties of parsley has healing effect on the skin.
  • Take half cup olive oil
  • Mix it well with half cup water
  • Add a little parsley to it.
  • Use this blend for the skin.

Method 4:

Anti ageing moisturizing lotion can also be prepared at home using olive oil.
  • Peel and deseed a cucumber
  • To this add juice of one lemon
  • Add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Blend the ingredients in a blender
  • Store this moisturizer in an air tight container in the refrigerator
  • Use it within three day.

Method 5:

Fragrant skin moisturizer can be prepared using petals of flowers like rose.
  • Take one and a half cup of petals in a glass container.(make sure no chemicals have been sprayed on the petals as the chemicals will go into the infusion)
  • Pour the vitamin E oil from 6 capsules on the petals.
  • On this pour 2 cups of warm extra virgin olive oil.
  • Mix the ingredients gently and close the lid of the container
  • Leave it in a warm place for two weeks.
  • Shake the mixture regularly
  • After two weeks strain and pour the oil in another container.
  • This infused oil can be used as after bath moisturizer.
Olive oil is used in several other skin care products like exfoliator, cleanser, eye make up remover, shaving cream etc.
