One of the most common problems that occurs due to the poor oral hygiene is bad breath. It causes lots of embarrassment and discomfort to the one who is suffering from it and also puts off the people around. After all who would like to breathe foul smell? There are several mouth fresheners and mouth washed available, but they are effective only for some time. Once the their effect diminishes the foul smell is back to cause irritation .Bad breath is also known as halitosis
 

Symptoms of bad breath:

  • Dryness of mouth

Causes of bad breath:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Oral cavities
  • Bacterial action in the mouth
  • Certain infections and diseases

There are several home remedies available which help tackle the problem of bad breath to a great extent.

Home Remedies for Bad Breath:

1. Cinnamon:

Cinnamon has antibacterial properties and is useful for dental problems. You can simply chew a piece of cinnamon.
  • Take a glass of warm water
  • Add cinnamon powder to it
  • Mix and use this as a mouth wash daily

2. Parsley:

Parsley has deodorizing action. The chlorophyll in parsley helps curb bad breath Chew a few leave of parsley daily to prevent bad breath

3. Basil Leaves:

Basil has antimicrobial properties and refreshes mouth. Chew a few basil leaves daily to get relief from bad breath

4. Fennel:

Fennel is a mouth freshener and has antibacterial properties. Chew fennel seeds daily. They also help in digestion. You can also sip fennel tea daily.
  • Take a cup of water
  • To it add fennel seeds
  • Boil for 10 minutes
  • Have this tea daily

5. Cloves:

Cloves have antibacterial properties and freshens mouth. Chew clove to    get rid of bad breath. You can also use clove mouth wash
  • Take a glass of water
  • Add clove powder to it
  • Boil for 10 minutes
  • Strain the solution
  • Cool and use as mouth wash daily.

6. Fenugreek:

Bad breath can be caused by catarrhal infections. Fenugreek tea is   effective in this case.
  • Take a cup of water
  • Add fenugreek seeds to it
  • Boil the mixture for 10 minutes
  • Strain the solution
  • Drink the solution daily till you get rid of the problem.

7. Lemon Juice:

Lemon juice has antimicrobial properties and a refreshing smell. It also cures dry mouth which is one of the causes of bad breath.
  • Take a glass of water
  • Add lemon juice to it
  • Gargle with this mixture
  • To make the mixture more effective add sal 

8. Apple cider vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar has the property to balance ph and is useful in curing bad breath.
  • Take 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • Add it to one cup of water
  • Gargle with this solution.

9. Baking Soda:

Baking soda has antimicrobial properties and balances the ph of the mouth and thus helps cure bad breath.
  • Take a glass of warm water
  • Add one and half teaspoon of baking soda
  • Mix well
  • Gargle with this solution once daily

10. Fruits and yogurt:

Raw and crunchy natural foods like apple and carrot when eaten raw help in cleaning the teeth. Cinnamon helps cure bad breath. Apple has pectin which increases saliva production and prevents odour.Freindly bacteria in yogurt reduces the harmful bacteria.
  • Take ½ cup diced apples
  • Add ½ cup diced carrots to it
  • Add ½ cup yogurt to it
  • Add a little cinnamon powder
  • Mix well
Eat this delicious crunchy salad.
In addition to the above home remedies a few tips also help in fighting bad breath

Tips:

Brush and floss twice daily
Drink plenty of water
Replace toothbrush after every two months
Clean tongue daily
Chew cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and fennel seeds on regular basis
 
These home remedies and tips are very useful against bad breath. But if the symptoms persist it is best to seek the advice of a dentist.
