Most of us take very good care of our face .We protect it from the harmful sun and pamper the skin of our face to keep it glowing and radiant. But in the process most of us neglect our hands. The harmful rays of the sun then attack the skin on our hands and it results in the darkening of the hands which we call sun tan. Once the damage is done then we run around to get products which will remove the ugly tan. It is important to remember here that in some cases the harmful effects are not limited to just tanning of skin; it has several other adverse effects:
  • Sunburn
  • Premature Skin aging
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin infections which can give rise to acne, dark spots.
  • Hyper pigmentation
In severe cases, it can even lead to skin cancer
 
If you have tanned skin on the hands there is no need to worry. There are some very good home remedies which involves the use of some of the most simple kitchen ingredients which helps in removing the tan from our hands.

Home Remedies for removing tan from hands:

1. Orange Peel and Milk:

The vitamin C in orange peel rejuvenates the skin and prevents it from aging while milk acts as cleanser, moisturizer and bleaching agent.
  • Take the orange peels from the orange.
  • Grind it to form a fine paste
  • Add milk to the paste and mix it well.
  • Apply this mixture to the hands
  • Leave it for one hour
  • Wash with water.
  • Follow the remedy everyday

2. Besan, turmeric and milk pack:

Besan is very good for the skin .It lightens the skin colour.Turmeric has healing action and give radiance to the skin. Milk acts as cleanser, moisturizer and bleaching agent.
  • Take besan pinch of turmeric and milk in a container
  • Mix well
  • Apply this paste to the hands
  • Leave it for 15 minutes.
  • Wash with water
  • Follow the remedy everyday.

3. Almonds:

Almonds are rich with antioxidants and vitamin E.They have anti aging properties and also moisturize the skin.
  • Soak few almonds in water overnight
  • Peel and make a paste of the almonds in the morning
  • Add a few drops of sandalwood oil
  • Mix well
  • Apply it to the hands
  • Leave it for half an hour
  • Wash with water

Potato juice bleaches the skin hence is widely used for removing sun tan.
  • Peel two potatoes
  • Extract their juice
  • Apply it to the hands
  • Leave it for half an hour
  • Wash with water.

5. Milk powder, honey and lemon juice:

Milk powder moisturizes the skin and gives a smooth texture to the skin. Honey is a good moisturizing agent and has anti bacterial properties. Lemon juice has astringent action and helps in skin lightening.
  • Take one tablespoon of milk powder, honey and lemon juice in a container.
  • Mix well
  • Apply the paste to the hands
  • Leave it for 30 minutes
  • Wash with water

6. Lemon Juice and salt:

This mixture acts as a exfoliant besides lemon juice is a good bleaching agent and its astringent action helps against skin infections like acne.
  • Take lemon juice in a bowl
  • To it add salt
  • Mix well
  • Apply the mixture to the hands
  • Rub gently for 5 minutes
  • Leave the mixture on the hands for 15 minutes
  • Wash with water.

7. Borax powder, glycerin and rose water:

Borax powder has antibacterial action,glycerin is a moisturizing agent while rose water acts as skin coolant, cleanser and has antioxidants and vitamins that help in preventing aging of skin.
  • Take 3 tablespoons of borax powder.
  • Mix it with two tablespoons of glycerin and one tablespoon of rosewater.
  • Mix well
  • Apply the mixture to the hands.
  • Leave it for 20 minutes
  • Wash hands with water

8. Oatmeal, tomato juice and curd:

Oatmeal is an exfoliant while curd has antibacterial properties.Tomatoes are good skin toners and remove oiliness of skin.

  • Mash a tomato and extract its juice
  • Mix curd and oatmeal.
  • Apply the mixture to the hands.
  • Leave it for 20 minutes
  • Wash hands with water
  • Follow the remedy everyday for two weeks.

9. Cucumber, rose water and lemon juice:

Lemon juice is a good bleaching agent and its astringent action helps against skin infections like acne. Rose water and cucumber juice are good coolants for the skin.

  • Grate one cucumber.
  • Strain through a cloth and extract its juice.
  • To this juice add 1 tablespoon rose water
  • Add one tablespoon lemon juice.
  • Mix it well.
  • With the help of cotton apply the solution to the skin.
  • Leave it for 10 minutes,
  • Wash it with cold water.
  • Use this remedy every time you come back home from the sun.

10. Papaya and honey pack:

Honey is a very god moisturizing agent while papaya has enzymes which lighten the skin colour and rejuvenate the skin. It also acts as an exfoliating agent which helps remove the dead skin cells.

  • Take three tablespoons of ripe papaya pulp.
  • To it add one tablespoon honey.
  • Mix it well.
  • Apply to the skin and leave it for 30 minutes.
  • Wash with cold water.
  • Use this remedy at least once in a week.

Remember that reducing skin tan will take time and the home remedies will have to be followed for long time. Some precautionary measures should also be taken to avoid sun tan.

  • Avoid going out in the afternoons and in the harsh sun.
  • If you must venture out make sure to apply sun block.
  • Select sun block as per your skin type.
  • Drink lots of water and keep your body hydrated
  • Eat food rich in beta carotene which protects the skin for example carrots.
  • Eat food rich in vitamin E like custard apple
  • Wear long sleeves clothing when in the sun.
  • Apply milk to the hands everyday after bath as it lightens the skin color.
